There are venues that host events, and then there are places where the building becomes part of the outing. Bell Works belongs to the latter category. The immense glass-roofed atrium, shops and restaurants, lakeside gathering spaces and intimate Bell Theater give visitors reasons to linger long before the advertised program begins.
The Eero Saarinen-designed former Bell Labs campus, now redeveloped as a public-facing “metroburb,” is preparing for a particularly varied end to fall. From October’s pet-costume parade and Halloween celebrations to November’s state wine showcase, concerts, conferences and Thanksgiving morning road race, Bell Works is operating less like a single-purpose venue than an indoor main street with several cultural calendars unfolding at once.
October brings costumes, jazz and a cause
Families and dog owners have the first invitations. The Bell Works Fresh market on Wednesday, October 21, adds a dog-costume PAWrade at 3 p.m., with registration beginning at noon and prizes following the procession. The market itself runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Later in the month, The Block welcomes children for daytime trick-or-treating at participating businesses on Friday, October 30; Bar Bella hosts its Disco After Dark Halloween party on October 29 and a Boos + Barks Yappy Hour on Halloween night.
The musical calendar has its own draw. Contemporary jazz band Spyro Gyra performs at Bell Theater twice on Saturday, October 24, at 5 and 8 p.m. That same evening, a separate event at Bell Works, the Sarala Bathena Foundation’s 19th Annual Super Sampling, combines wine and spirits tastings with fundraising for charitable work that includes assistance for oncology patients and their families. The tasting runs from 7 to 11 p.m., with VIP access at 6 p.m. It is for guests 21 and older.
Smaller experiences are part of the attraction, too: rooftop yoga on several October mornings, complimentary introductory pickleball on Mondays, live DJ sessions at Bar Bella, a manifestation-jar workshop on October 25 and a floral-arranging class on October 28. At the on-site Holmdel Library, the Peas + Carrots music program is scheduled for October 28.
New Jersey wine gets the ballroom; Motown gets the stage
The 3rd Annual NJ Wine Expo anchors the first full weekend of November. On Saturday, November 7, the Garden State Wine Growers Association brings winemakers from around New Jersey to the Bell Works Ballroom for tastings of more than 130 wines. Early access is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m., followed by general admission from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are required and entry is restricted to people 21 and older; the organizer lists general admission at $38.10 through November 5, with $45 admission at the door if tickets remain.
The previous edition drew more than 1,300 people, according to the association, but the appeal of this year’s expo is easy to understand without the attendance figure: one room where visitors can meet the people producing New Jersey wine, sample a range of styles and discover wineries worth exploring on a future trip.
Across the property, Bell Theater’s November slate moves from a 13-piece Motown and Stax celebration by Motor City Revue on November 6 to comedian Bobby Collins on November 12. Pat Guadagno and the Rags & Feathers Orchestra reinterpret Leonard Cohen’s songbook on November 14. The Jersey Shore’s Matt O’Ree Band brings a Led Zeppelin-focused evening on November 20; trumpeter Rick Braun pays tribute to Chuck Mangione with two shows on November 21; and vocalist Michelle Foster presents A Carole King Christmas on November 22. It is a striking mix of rock, soul, jazz, comedy and the first notes of the holiday season, all in a single theater.
The building’s innovation history gets a modern sequel
Some of the most fitting November events are not entertainment at all. On November 12, the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists hosts The Bellwether, an afternoon-to-evening exploration of beauty innovation with experiential stations, a panel discussion and dinner. The New Jersey Technology & Engineering Educators Association holds its 2026 Conference & Expo at Bell Works on November 13, bringing education and industry conversations into the former research campus.
Then, on November 19, the Research & Development Council of New Jersey presents the 47th Annual Edison Patent Awards, recognizing inventors and technological achievement. In a complex built for Bell Labs researchers, the setting carries a kind of historical resonance that no conventional hotel ballroom could easily duplicate.
The Work Like a Girl NJ Next Gen Summit on November 21 looks toward the other end of the career spectrum. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is designed to connect young women exploring college, internships, careers and professional possibilities with speakers, mentors, employers and resources.
A weekly market, and a Thanksgiving finish line
Even without a special ticketed event, Bell Works is an easy place to visit for its regular Fresh Wednesday Farmers & Makers Market. The remaining scheduled dates before Thanksgiving are October 21 and 28 and November 4, 11, 18 and 25, all from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A larger Saturday edition is scheduled for November 14. These markets bring growers, bakers, makers and other independent sellers into the atrium, where the architectural setting turns an everyday shopping trip into something more interesting.
The fall calendar culminates on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26, with the 11th Annual Run Your Giblets Off Turkey Trot. The event offers staggered 5K running waves beginning at 9 and 9:30 a.m., a walking wave at 9:45 a.m. and a kids’ run at 10:45 a.m. Organizers advertise finisher medals and race shirts; runners seeking a guaranteed shirt size are asked to register by November 11. It is a community-minded conclusion to a schedule that has spent weeks bringing people to Holmdel for very different reasons.
Bell Works is at 101 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel. Admission and registration vary widely by event, and Bell Theater performances, expos and workshops use their own ticketing systems. The building is generally open to the public seven days a week; visitors should consult the relevant organizer before heading out. The dedicated Bell Works Fresh Holiday Markets begin November 28, just after the Thanksgiving cutoff of this preview.
