A Morris County food festival is putting an Italian spin on the familiar food-truck format this weekend, with pizza, pasta, live music, family activities and a benefit for two local firefighter organizations all sharing the field.

Just Jersey Fest's Taste of Italy Italian Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at Mine Hill Fireman's Field, 230 Route 46. The current Just Jersey Fest listing runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $5, with children under 5 admitted free.

The event benefits the Mine Hill Fire Department and Dover FMBA Local 60, giving the festival a local purpose beyond the food and entertainment. Just Jersey Fest regularly pairs its food and music events with community organizations, and the Mine Hill stop puts firefighters at the center of that partnership.

The food is the obvious draw. Current event promotions describe a lineup built around Italian favorites and festival food, with pizza, made-to-order pasta, rice balls, seafood specialties, steak, Italian ice, ice cream and plenty of cheese-heavy options.

Vendors promoted for the Mine Hill event include The Mozzarella God, Little Sicilian, The Pasta Truck, Ravioli Remix, Jersey Meatball King, What the Focaccia and Avellino's Wood Fired Pizza, along with sweet and savory stops such as Donut NV, The Brownie Bar, Uncle Sal's Egg Rolls and Clyde's Italian Ice.

That makes the festival less of a single-meal stop and more of a roaming menu. The fun of a food-truck gathering is usually in trying a little from several places, and an Italian theme gives the day an easy through-line without limiting it to one style of cooking.

There is also an Italian marketplace component expected to feature specialty foods and vendors, with items such as oils, olives, breads and cheeses among the offerings promoted for the event. For adults 21 and older, the beverage bar is expected to include beer, sangria, margaritas and Italian-leaning cocktails such as limoncello and Aperol spritzes.

The soundtrack follows the theme. Event promotions list strolling accordion player Max La Falce from noon to 3 p.m., along with the DeLauro Rat Pack Band bringing a Sinatra-style sound to the festival. That combination should give the field something closer to an Italian street-festival atmosphere than a standard row of food trucks with background music.

Families are part of the plan as well. Face painting, inflatables and children's craft activities, including pasta necklaces and Italian flag crafts, have been advertised for the festival. Just Jersey Fest recommends bringing chairs and blankets because seating is not provided, and outside food, drinks and coolers are not permitted.

The organizer also asks attendees at its festivals to bring a non-perishable canned or boxed food item to support a local food pantry, adding another community-service element to the day.

For Mine Hill and the surrounding Morris County communities, the festival lands in a useful part of the fall calendar: late enough for cooler weather, but still built around an outdoor afternoon of eating, music and wandering the field. The modest admission price also keeps the event approachable for families who want to stop in for a few hours rather than commit to a full-day ticketed attraction.

And the beneficiary matters. Fire departments and firefighter organizations are often woven into the civic life of New Jersey towns, from emergency response to fundraisers and community events. Here, the people coming for meatballs, mozzarella and music are also helping support the Mine Hill Fire Department and Dover FMBA Local 60.

That makes the Oct. 10 festival an easy combination: come hungry, bring a chair, make a lap through the vendors and know that the gate supports the firefighters serving the surrounding community.
