New Jersey does not need much help getting weird in October, but the New Jersey Punk Rock Flea Market is apparently willing to assist.

On Oct 17, 2026, the NJPRFM returns to the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison for its Jersey Devil Night Market, an eight-hour celebration of independent art, underground culture, strange finds and the particular kind of controlled chaos that has become the event's signature. General admission runs from 3 to 11 p.m., with VIP ticket holders admitted an hour early.

Calling it a flea market has always been technically accurate and increasingly incomplete.

Since launching in 2013, the NJPRFM has grown from a punk-inspired DIY marketplace into what organizers bill as the Beast Coast's largest independent DIY shopping experience and underground arts festival. The event now pulls together hundreds of artists, makers, vintage sellers, record dealers, small businesses and collectors, with participants coming from across New Jersey and well beyond it.

The October edition leans fully into the season. Organizers are promising hundreds of independent vendors spread across the Expo Center floor with handmade art, vinyl, vintage clothing and finds, accessories, decor, oddities, collectibles and the sort of objects that tend to make shoppers stop mid-aisle and say, "I have absolutely no use for this, but I need it."

More Than a Shopping Trip

The Jersey Devil Night Market is built to keep people wandering long after they have filled a tote bag.

The event includes the Bold Will Hold Tattoo Zone, where guests 18 and older with valid identification can get tattooed or pierced on site. Live entertainment is expected throughout the night, including musicians, performers and interactive sideshow-style acts. The "Hell Night" film festival will give attendees somewhere to sit down and take in short-form horror and genre programming between laps through the vendor floor.

Outside, nearly a dozen food trucks are expected to handle the dinner-and-snacking side of the evening, while guests 21 and older can pick up specialty brews and spooky cocktails. Costumes are not merely tolerated; they are highly encouraged, with cash prizes planned for some of the night's best looks.

That mixture is a large part of why NJPRFM has outgrown the mental picture attached to the words flea market. It functions as a marketplace, but also as a temporary clubhouse for people who like their art independent, their shopping weird, their music loud and their Halloween season slightly unhinged.

The shopping is still the center of gravity. NJPRFM's vendor rules favor independent artists, makers, vintage sellers, record labels, authors, bands and small businesses rather than large corporate exhibitors. That gives the floor a different feel from a conventional trade show: the person behind the table is often the person who made the print, poured the candle, stitched the jacket, pressed the record, restored the vintage piece or spent far too much time acquiring whatever wonderfully questionable object is now for sale.

It also means the event works best when treated less like a checklist and more like a place to roam. There will be familiar categories - records, clothing, art, horror, collectibles, oddities - but the point is often finding the thing that was not on the shopping list.

A Very New Jersey Night Market

The Jersey Devil theme is an easy fit for an event already comfortable with monsters, punk culture, horror art and the unexplained corners of New Jersey identity. The state's most famous cryptid does not have to work very hard to blend into a room full of skulls, patches, taxidermy, vintage records, tattoos and people dressed for October three weeks early.

There is also something appropriately New Jersey about the scale of it. The NJ Expo Center offers more than 150,000 square feet of exhibit space, and NJPRFM has spent more than a decade learning how to turn large venues into crowded little neighborhoods of independent creators. One aisle can feel like an art fair, the next like a record convention, the next like an oddities shop, and then somebody is getting tattooed twenty feet away while a band starts up.

That density is what we will be there to cover.

We'll be on the floor for the Jersey Devil Night Market, talking with vendors, watching the crowd move through the space and documenting the art, businesses, performances and people that give the event its personality. Advance stories can tell you what is scheduled. The fun part is seeing what the room becomes once the doors open.

What to Know Before You Go

The Jersey Devil Night Market runs from 3 to 11 p.m. at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave. in Edison. General admission is currently $20, and children 12 and under are admitted free with an adult. Tickets are available in advance online and at the door; organizers say door sales are cash only. VIP admission includes 2 p.m. early entry along with lounge access and other extras.

Parking at the Expo Center is free, and well-behaved leashed dogs are permitted. The market is all ages, with the expected restrictions for tattooing, piercing and alcohol service.

If you have ever wanted to spend one evening digging through vinyl, buying original art, browsing oddities, watching a sideshow act, catching a horror film, eating from a food truck and considering an impulsive tattoo, NJPRFM has efficiently solved the scheduling problem.

The Jersey Devil will be waiting in Edison. We'll see what followed it through the doors.
