In the summer of 1977, the news from Memphis traveled around the world: Elvis Presley had died at Graceland at age 42. Fifty years later, the pilgrimage to his home has not stopped. Fans still come to see the rooms where he lived, hear the gospel music he loved, and stand at the Meditation Garden where he is buried. In 2027, those familiar traditions will take on a new weight as Graceland and organizers across the country mark the 50th anniversary of his death on August 16, 1977.
The anniversary is being billed as Elvis 50, but the calendar is not limited to a single solemn night. Graceland has confirmed a January birthday celebration, a March weekend devoted to top tribute artists, a July Fourth festival and the August 7–16 Elvis Week observance. Independent festivals from Nashville-area Franklin to Las Vegas and Florida will keep the music moving throughout the year, with competitions that send performers toward the national stage in Memphis.
Taken together, the events form an unusual kind of historical anniversary: part remembrance, part concert circuit and part living community. Where many half-century commemorations ask audiences to look backward, this one will also reveal how Elvis’s recordings continue to shape performers and attract new generations of fans.

January: a birthday celebration that starts the anniversary year
Elvis would have turned 92 on January 8, 2027. Graceland will mark the occasion January 7–10 with an unusually full program that moves through his career rather than focusing only on the birthday itself. The celebration opens on January 7 with “Elvis: ’68 Comeback,” a live tribute and storytelling program inspired by his landmark television special, with performers including Pat Dunn, Emilio Santoro, Cote Deonath and Finley Watkins.
On January 8, the annual Birthday Proclamation Ceremony will bring fans to Graceland’s front lawn. The ceremony is free and has traditionally included local officials, a birthday cake and a public declaration honoring Presley. Later that day, “Elvis 1957” will revisit the year he bought Graceland and released such defining screen performances as “Jailhouse Rock.” Organizers have announced appearances by longtime Elvis friend Jerry Schilling and Graceland Archives and Exhibits vice president Angie Marchese, with live performances.
January 9 pairs “Conversations on Elvis,” a panel-based look at the man and his legacy, with “Elvis Presley in Concert Featuring the Memphis Symphony Orchestra,” blending live musicians and archival screen performances. A late-night screening of Baz Luhrmann’s “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” is listed as free but requires a reserved ticket. The weekend closes January 10 with a Sunday Morning Gospel Sing, acknowledging how central gospel was to Elvis’s musical life. Details and ticket categories are available through Graceland; some events require paid admission.
March to May: the tribute artists take center stage
March 5–7 — Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Weekend, Memphis
Graceland’s annual March program brings past champions and other leading tribute artists into the Soundstage and TCB Showroom for evening concerts, gospel performances and late-night gatherings. The weekend is confirmed; organizers have said a complete roster and event-by-event schedule will follow.
March 18–21 — Nashville Elvis Festival, Franklin, Tennessee
The Nashville Elvis Festival returns to Liberty Hall at The Factory at Franklin for 10 scheduled shows and late-night performances. The lineup includes Cote Deonath, Emilio Santoro, Finley Watkins, Victor Trevino and other accomplished interpreters. Alongside programs devoted to Elvis’s early hits, movies, gospel recordings and later concert years, a contest advances its winner to the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at Graceland during Elvis Week. This independently produced festival is in Franklin, not downtown Nashville.
April 9–11 — Smoky Mountain Elvis Festival, Pigeon Forge
At the Grand Smokies Resort Lodge & Event Center, the program includes preliminary and final tribute-artist competition rounds, an “Elvis My Way” concert, “Elvis in Vegas,” gospel performances and tributes to other popular-music legends. Taylor Rodriguez, Cote Deonath and Finley Watkins are among the performers promoted by organizers. Some after-party details remain to be announced.
May 27–30 — Las Vegas Elvis Festival, Nevada
The Alexis Park Resort will host a four-day festival of tribute shows, a red-carpet opening, the Rock-A-Hula Pool Party, a gospel brunch and another official preliminary competition leading toward Memphis. One unusual announced feature is a vocals-only “Radio Round,” in which judges assess performers without seeing their costumes or stage presentation. It is a fitting celebration in the city where Elvis’s 1969 return to live performance helped define his later career.
June and July: a summer-long soundtrack
The summer calendar extends to Tupelo, Mississippi, where the annual Tupelo Elvis Festival is expected to return, although its own 2027 website still lists its detailed dates and program as forthcoming. The hometown connection matters: Elvis was born in Tupelo in 1935, and the Elvis Presley Birthplace continues to interpret his childhood and early influences.
In Florida, “Elvis: The Summer Festival” is confirmed for June 23–26 at Ocala’s Circle Square Cultural Center. Its organizers advertise a four-day program of concerts and special events with performers including Dean Z, Bill Cherry, Dwight Icenhower, Cote Deonath and others. Graceland’s Performing Arts Camp is also planned for late June or early July. That program teaches young participants singing, dancing and acting, culminating in a performance at the Guest House at Graceland; exact session dates had not been published at the time of this guide.
From July 2–4, Graceland’s All-American Weekend will bring Fourth of July concerts, mansion tours, family activities and Elvis-themed fireworks to Memphis. Graceland says additional schedules will be announced in spring 2027. Later in the month, the Illinois Elvis Festival is listed for July 15–17 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. The wider festival circuit also includes early-year events in Douglas, Georgia, January 21–23, and North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, February 10–13.
August: Elvis Week and the night that matters most
Elvis Week, set for August 7–16, will be the central gathering of the 50th anniversary. Graceland has confirmed the dates and opened selected Guest House booking windows, an early sign of intense demand for accommodations close to the mansion. A complete 2027 day-by-day lineup of concerts, discussions, screenings and competitions had not been publicly finalized in the official material reviewed for this article, so individual August performers and ticket arrangements should not yet be treated as confirmed.
The enduring center of Elvis Week is the Candlelight Vigil on August 15, continuing into the early hours of August 16. In the traditional procession, people gather at Graceland’s gates and move quietly up the driveway to the Meditation Garden with candles, remembering a performer who died on August 16, 1977. The vigil has historically been open to the public, with Graceland publishing security and access instructions closer to the event. For the 50th anniversary, readers should consult the specific 2027 guidance when it is released rather than assuming every detail will match previous years.
There is a reason this vigil remains powerful even in an age of giant arena tribute shows. The songs belong to popular culture; the gathering is personal. People who remember hearing the news in 1977 will stand alongside fans born decades later, united by music that traveled from radio and vinyl into film, streaming playlists, wedding dances and concert stages around the world.
Beyond Memphis: birthplace gatherings and fall festivals
In Tupelo, an independently organized Homecoming Weekend at Elvis Presley’s Birthplace is advertised for September 23–25, 2027, with live tribute performances, gospel music, a welcome reception and visits connected to local Elvis history. Separate from that specific event, the Tupelo Elvis Festival remains an important annual stop, but its full 2027 announcement has not yet been published.
The licensed ETA Festivals circuit also lists a Mount Dora, Florida, festival for September 30–October 2, a Hot Springs, Arkansas, festival for October 21–23 and a Waco, Texas, event for December 9–11. Those are published dates, not complete programs: readers should check with each organizer for venues, lineups and tickets as announcements follow. The network also lists a Georgia event for October 16–17 without a confirmed city or venue, so it is not presented as a settled travel destination here.
The music is the larger story
Elvis’s reach cannot be measured by the number of people wearing sideburns or rhinestone jumpsuits. His early Sun Records recordings brought together the gospel, country, blues and rhythm-and-blues traditions he heard growing up in Mississippi and Memphis. Black artists and musical communities were essential to those sounds, and any meaningful look at his cultural legacy should recognize them alongside his success in bringing a hybrid style to an enormous commercial audience.
The 1950s television appearances, the movies, the 1968 comeback, the Las Vegas concerts and the deeply felt gospel performances each created a different Elvis for audiences to remember. The range of 2027 programming reflects that diversity. Some fans want the urgency of “That’s All Right,” others the spectacle of a concert-era performance, and others the familiarity of songs that have accompanied their families for generations.
For visitors, the anniversary offers several ways into the story: a January birthday trip, a spring tribute festival, a July family weekend, or the August remembrance that will mark the exact half-century. What holds those experiences together is not nostalgia alone. Fifty years after the world lost Elvis Presley, the people who gather to remember him are still making the music part of their own lives.
Planning a 2027 visit
Memphis visitors should build itineraries around Graceland’s confirmed dates rather than assume the full Elvis Week schedule is already on sale. The estate’s Soundstage, TCB Showroom and mansion grounds host different kinds of events, often with separate admission. Graceland lists ticketed presentations alongside a free birthday proclamation, and its published Candlelight Vigil procedures have traditionally provided public access. The Guest House at Graceland has issued specific booking conditions for August 2027; travelers should review deposits and minimum stays before making plans.
The festivals outside Memphis are separately produced and ticketed, even when they use preliminary competitions affiliated with Graceland’s Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. Confirm event pages, venues and accessibility information directly with organizers. All dates above reflect published information available October 26, 2026; more Elvis 50 announcements are expected as the anniversary approaches.
